Site lighting is defined just as it sounds – any type of lighting fixture that illuminates the site. These fixtures could be wall packs, floodlights, parking lot lighting fixtures, canopy, parking garage etc. The site lighting is essential to safety of the tenants and the overall perception of the property. Most of these current fixtures are in the 150 to 400 Watt range.

The biggest impact fixtures in this category have are parking lot fixtures and parking garage fixtures on site. Many existing fixtures are High Pressure Sodium that outputs a very warm “yellowish pink” light. This is typically around a 2700-Kelvin temperature.
With an LED Retrofit, the output can not only be a specific color temperature, but it can also be focused on a particular area, without the “hot spots” associated with High Pressure Sodium fixtures. The Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies (ASSIST) was established in 2002 by the Lighting Research Center as collaboration among researchers, manufacturers, and government organizations. ASSIST’s mission is to enable the broad adoption of solid-state lighting by providing factual information based on applied research and by visualizing future applications. The Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies (ASSIST) is active in a number of research projects and other activities to advance and promote LED technology. One of these activities is a publication program called ASSIST recommends, which was developed to provide a set of formal recommendations to the LED and lighting communities about issues important for the reliable performance of LED lighting and its comparison to other light source technologies. The publications include recommendations for LED life definition, testing and measurement, best practice guides for different lighting applications, and recommendations for selecting LED lighting.
