Area & Site Lighting

Parking lots and garages can represent a challenging environment for lighting solutions. Parking garage lighting must economically accommodate vehicular and pedestrian traffic, must endure harsh environments and must address public safety.  LED lights are one of the most environmentally sound and reliable ways to improve your infrastructure. Investment in solid-state lighting sources is accelerating. Continuing improvements in LED technology are expected to provide increasingly affordable, environmentally friendly illumination that will revolutionize the way we use artificial light.

Electro-Matic’s AP & AR Series offers a comprehensive line of high performance, install-friendly LED luminaires for general outdoor site lighting.  The results are excellent uniformity to increase visibility and safety for pedestrians and motorists on walkways, roadways, parking applications and building safety.  The crisp, brilliant white LED light reduces your energy consumption and maintenance costs while eliminating CO2 emissions.

Site lighting is defined just as it sounds – any type of lighting fixture that illuminates the site. These fixtures could be wall packs, floodlights, parking lot lighting fixtures, canopy, parking garage etc. The site lighting is essential to safety of the tenants and the overall perception of the property. Most of these current fixtures are in the 150 to 400 Watt range.

An LED retrofit for these fixtures is typically in the 30 to 150 Watt range. As you can see, the energy savings, again, add up pretty quickly (link to our ROI Calculator). Since retrofitting with LED lamps means NO lamp replacements and NO ballast replacements, the ROI typically less than 2 – 2 1/2 years.

The biggest impact fixtures in this category have are parking lot fixtures and parking garage fixtures on site. Many existing fixtures are High Pressure Sodium that outputs a very warm “yellowish pink” light. This is typically around a 2700-Kelvin temperature.

With an LED Retrofit, the output can not only be a specific color temperature, but it can also be focused on a particular area, without the “hot spots” associated with High Pressure Sodium fixtures. These fixtures also have the ability to dim to a specified level when needed, such as after heavy traffic times. Once again, another energy savings feature, which translates into money savings.

The Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies (ASSIST) was established in 2002 by the Lighting Research Center as collaboration among researchers, manufacturers, and government organizations. ASSIST’s mission is to enable the broad adoption of solid-state lighting by providing factual information based on applied research and by visualizing future applications.   The Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies (ASSIST) is active in a number of research projects and other activities to advance and promote LED technology. One of these activities is a publication program called ASSIST recommends, which was developed to provide a set of formal recommendations to the LED and lighting communities about issues important for the reliable performance of LED lighting and its comparison to other light source technologies. The publications include recommendations for LED life definition, testing and measurement, best practice guides for different lighting applications, and recommendations for selecting LED lighting.
